Announcing VéloCity Bicycle Coop in Alexandria, opening May 1, 2010

The non-profit VéloCity bike coop will offer to the community a place to build and fix bicycles; learn about bicycles and cycling; participate in training, rides and events; meet with others interested in cycling; and experience the freedom of cycling. 

The coop will provide an open workspace with bicycle tools, parts, and stands for assembling and fixing bicycles; in addition, there will be space for training sessions and to just sit and relax. 

Volunteer staff will run the coop and deliver services. A community-based learning environment will be fostered where people will learn from each other and share what they know. 

Open to all, the coop will aim to include a broad spectrum of the community, particularly focusing on residents who do not readily have resources or access to bicycles and cycling.
